Q & A with All At Sea

Copenhagen-based brand All at Sea was founded in 2014 by friends Benjamin Monrad and Christian Reese. They’re on a mission to make modern silkwear for the Nordic gentleman. While honouring Scandinavian design principles the duo have a fond passion for silk, both the natural characteristics of the material as well as its many possibilities, functionality and feel. We like what they’re up to and thus want to wish them welcome in-store and online.

What is your most important task in life and in your work?

Benjamin: In life, I prioritize spending time with friends and family as much as possible. With All At Sea we’re constantly trying to challenge our concept and to continue to grow in an organic and sustainable way.

Christian: To make people in my life happy!

What is your most important source of inspiration?

Benjamin: Everything Japanese; Japanese culture, architecture, food and fashion.

Christian: I try to keep an open mind. I find inspiration in whatever I come across in my daily life. It can be while reading a magazine, in a coffee shop or during a walk with my dog. But more specifically we look to Japanese art and architecture for inspiration.

What is your favourite occupation at the moment?

Together: Designing our next collection. We spend a lot of time experimenting with different combinations of colour for our new prints and of course on creating new styles for our brand.

What is your relation to Goods?

Together: Goods has shown interest in our brand from day one. Kasper is always very kind and provides usable feedback on upcoming collections.

What makes your partnership with Goods relevant for you and your business?

Together: The guys behind GOODS have an eye for quality products and are really good at combining different brands in a minimalistic, Nordic manner, this suits the aesthetics of our brand very well.

What’s your favorite place in Copenhagen?

Benjamin: One of my absolute favourite places in Copenhagen is the Royal Library Garden located just behind Christiansborg Castle. That place reminds me of my childhood when my grandfather used to take me there. The garden used to be one of Copenhagen’s best kept secrets, but nowadays there is a Poké-gym located there, which makes the place quite crowded. Hopefully the garden will return to its calm self again soon.

Christian: The Lakes, especially Sortedams dossering. I grew up there, so it has a special place in my heart, and it is a perfect place for a quick run.
